My friend has got a bad credit history ( a couple of unpaid mobile phone contracts 5 yrs ago) Can anyone recommend a bank that will give him an account ? He has had no credit or applied for any since the mobile contracts. He is not bothered about an overdraft. He relies on his girlfriends account at the moment and it is causing problems-it came to a head Christmas when he overspent!

The FSA publish a regular update on the format of basic bank accounts derived from the British Banking Association. The web link is http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/pdfs/bank_accounts.pdf and the page you want is No 4.
